V&T Railway to feature special railbike tour events for remaining 2020 season
Following the successful launch of V&T Railway's Carson City’s Carson Canyon Railbikes, the organization has announced a lineup of special event railbike tours for the remaining 2020 season. In addition to the standard Carson River Canyon tour, riders can expect extended hours, themed décor and added entertainment attractions.
Upcoming special events include Short Ride Tuesdays, Labor Day and Halloween rides with more to be announced. For more information on V&T Railway Carson City or to purchase tickets, visit vtrailway.com.
“While we had to reshape our 2020 season due to COVID-19 concerns, we are excited to introduce railbikes so our guests can continue to enjoy our historic railway,” said Elaine Barkdull-Spencer, general manager for the V&T. “In addition to the regularly scheduled railbike rides, we have added various special event rides including Labor Day specials and Halloween themed rides, suitable for the whole family to enjoy. For those looking for a less intense ride, we have added Short Ride Tuesdays, beginning September 8 allowing riders to experience the bikes over a shorter distance.”
After partnering with Freedom Rail out of Utica, NY, V&T added six railbikes to its fleet with plans for additional bikes in the coming months. The railbikes are quad designed, each with four seats and pedals for each rider.
The lightweight, aluminum framed bikes are equipped with a small motor to assist passengers during the 90-minute canyon tour.
Though the tours are designed for riders to peddle the whole route, the motors are in place to assist riders of all ages and physical strengths throughout the canyon. Upcoming special event times, pricing and dates are as follows:

About V&T Railway
V&T Railway, located at 4650 Eastgate Siding Road in Carson City, Nev. is a partially government funded, historical railroad that invites guests of any age to enjoy a journey into rich Nevada history. With reconstruction efforts beginning in the early 1990’s, the State of Nevada set up a commission to rebuild the line, operating today as the Nevada Commission for the Reconstruction of the V&T Railway. Throughout the following decade, the commission was able to restore 16-miles of track from Gold Hill into the Carson River Canyon, giving the railway the opportunity for more diverse trains.
The rail continues to operate its regular season from May through mid-October, with fully narrated roundtrip train rides from Carson City to Virginia City offering scenic routes and historic sites. The train also features various special events including Toast of the Canyon wine and beer trains and the wildly popular Polar Express. For more information, please visit www.vtrailway.com.
