Nevada Highway Patrol reports fatal crash on Highway 50 near Dayton

The Nevada Highway Patrol is reporting a fatal crash that happened at around 5 p.m. Wednesday night on Highway 50 and Occidental Drive east of Dayton. There are two vehicles involved with two confirmed driver fatalities, according to NHP.

The eastbound lane of Highway 50 is closed near Occidental because of the crash. NHP says motorists can expect lengthy travel delays near the area of the crash and that they should find alternate routes.

There were only the drivers in the vehicles that crashed, said NHP spokesperson Hannah DeGoey. The cause is under investigation. We will update as more information becomes available.

UPDATE 4:50PM: Jim Phalan, owner of The Fox Brewpub, said they are now back open for business. He said the sprinklers from the second story flooded the brewery and parts of the walk-in refrigeration, and they had to throw away a lot of food. They also lost most of their lunch business for the day.

"I am sure there is ceiling damages, I just do not know how much at this point," Phalan said. "But we didn't lose any beer."

He also thanked the first responders for saving the dog and the hotel. "Who knows how much worse it could have been," he said.

On Tuesday afternoon at 12:16 p.m., Carson City Fire units were dispatched to a structure fire at 310 S. Carson Street, the St. Charles Residential Hotel.

CCHS Board members and volunteers celebrate 50th anniversary.

Following a Carson City Historical Society Board meeting on Feb. 11, Board members gathered for a little celebration of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the CCHS.

The Nevada Landmarks Society (NLS) was founded on February 11, 1969, in order to preserve the Roberts House, the yellow Gothic Revival-style house at 1207 North Carson St., now known as the Foreman-Roberts House. The NLS later became the Carson City Historical Society.
