Carson City arrests: Vehicle owner preparing for work finds drunk man sleeping in car
A 25-year-old Arizona man was arrested Saturday for misdemeanor suspicion of tampering with a motor vehicle and disorderly conduct after he was discovered sleeping in a vehicle that wasn't his, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.
Deputies responded at 6:40 a.m. to the 900 block of South Carson Street and observed a vehicle with the driver side door open. The officer then came in contact with the owner of the vehicle, who pointed to the officer that his vehicle was being burglarized.
The officer observed a man sitting in the driver's seat with his arms across his chest and appeared to be sleeping. The officer instructed the man to show his hands and exit the vehicle. The man hesitated, then reached for the door handle and began pulling the door closed.
The officer pinned the door open and grabbed the man's wrist and ordered him out of the car. The man resisted the officer's attempt to pull hm from the car. The officer was able to get him out and handcuffed him. The officer observed a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person. The man submitted to a preliminary breath test with a .239 BAC.
Deputies spoke with the owner of the vehicle who stated he was leaving his apartment to go to work when he observed his card door was open. He then noticed the subject asleep in the driver's seat and called 911.
The suspect was taken to jail and booked for tampering with a motor vehicle and disorderly conduct. Bail: $1,379.
