Caldor Fire southwest of Tahoe grows to 106,562 acres, 5 percent contained as of Monday morning
The Caldor Fire burning southwest of Lake Tahoe in El Dorado County is mapped at 106,562 acres and is now 5 percent contained as of Monday morning, according to InciWeb.
According to Cal Fire, overnight downslope winds, low temperatures, and moderate humidity levels aided in slowing fire spread. Crews continue to encounter heavy down and drought-stressed fuels that are extremely receptive to spotting. Damage assessment teams continue to inspect properties and infrastructure throughout the area.
The fire is moving in a northeast direction, toward Strawberry and Twin Bridges. The operational boundary of the Caldor Fire has moved out to SR89 as of Monday morning. There has not been any new evacuation warnings or orders moving with it.
Cal Fire reports 17,488 structures threatened and 403 homes and six commercial properties destroyed.

Highway 50 is closed in both directions from the Sly Park Road exit to Twin Bridges. Highway 50 will be open between Meyers and Twin Bridges for local residents only who reside between Meyers and Twin Bridges. These residents will be subject to providing identification and proof of residency. No traffic will be allowed west past Twin Bridges.
There are 1,745 firefighters fighting the fire. Numerous firefighting air tankers from throughout the state and region are flying fire suppression missions as conditions allow.
