Award-winning Carson City artist and art teacher launches new website and online exhibit
Audrey Markowitz, award-winning mixed media artist from Carson City, launched her new Audrey’s Mixed Media – Joy in Color website and online gallery on Saturday.
Markowitz said she has been creating “stuff and messes” since she was five years old, using whatever materials were available — cloth, paper and found objects. A human resources trainer in her previous career, and a long-time local Certified Zentangle Teacher, Markowitz retired to her studio last year and has re-emerged this year with a full line of mixed media art in vivid color.
“I spent the last 13 years teaching over 400 students the beautiful and amazing artform of Zentangle that allows you to create beautiful images from repetitive patterns using simple tools,” she said. “I loved every minute of it and much of my earlier artwork reflected this artform, but I knew it was time to return to my love of mixed media art.”
Markowitz said she is self-taught and is constantly immersed in different art classes, honing her craft. Her art reflects the color and vibrancy of a life well-lived.
“Always walk through life as if you have something new to learn, and you will,” she said. “Life is beautiful, and it is also messy and imperfect. I embrace it all, along with a sense of joy and playfulness when I create my art. Each piece is original and unique – there is no other one like it.”
Along with her new online gallery, Markowitz unveils her new lineup at the Silver State Art Festival at Fuji Park and Exhibit Hall in Carson City Friday, Sept. 8, through Sunday, Sept. 10.
