Carson City School District to discuss $12 million in new bonds to improve school facilities

In a last minute announcement, Carson City based non-profit Food For Thought, Inc. will continue the Summer Lunch Program during the 2019 season. The program provides free and nutritious lunches to all children under 18.

The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Flood Warning for the mainstem of the Walker River above Weber Reservoir. Flows along this portion of the river are expected to slowly rise this week and into the weekend in response to rapid snowmelt in the headwaters.

The budget for the Community Support Services Grant was finalized at the most recent Carson City Board of Supervisor’s meeting, which allocated nearly $400,000 of grant funding for various programs helping our local communities such as helping homebound seniors, dental care for local youth, emergency shelter for domestic violence victims and more.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office is expanding its Volunteers in Partnership program and is looking for local residents to assist and participate. Also known as VIPS, the sheriff's office is looking for volunteers to assist in citizen patrol, administrative support, front counter reception, and the jail visitation program.

The Sheriff's Office is also looking for a volunteer ordained minister with a confirmation letter from a parish to assist in chaplain duties.

Pre-Kindergarten programs in the Carson City School District are celebrating rewarding results from the latest Quality Rating and Improvement Systems scores. Fremont Elementary earned a 3-star rating; Mark Twain Elementary, Bordewich Bray Elementary and Student Support Services all earned a 4-star rating, and Empire Elementary earned a 5-star rating.

Carson City Sheriff’s Office detectives received a tip from a citizen concerning the White Dodge van with California plates of 62242K2. Detectives located the white van and suspect Adam Autry at QuickStop Gas Station located at 3006 N. Roop Street at 4:13 p.m. Autry was taken into custody after further investigation and the van is being held for investigation.

UPDATE 445PM: A male driver of a white van with matching plates was detained Tuesday afternoon after a citizen reported the van at the Quick Stop at 3006 North Roop Street. The man was being questioned and the van was being towed.

Carson City Sheriff’s Office detectives are investigating three separate suspicious incidents during the past few days involving confrontations between pedestrian females and possible solicitations.

UPDATE WEDNESDAY: The Carson City Sheriff’s Office announced that Bryce Kent and the outstanding Toyota Camry have been located. The juvenile and the vehicle were released back to his parents by Washoe County deputies.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Investigation Division is asking the public for help locating a 17-year-old runaway juvenile who is believed to be in possession of a stolen car.

UPDATE WEDNESDAY: Based on tips from the public, the 13-year-old runaway juvenile was located late Tuesday evening in Carson City, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office detective.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Investigation Division is asking the public’s assistance in locating a runaway juvenile female. Trinity Cole age 13, was last seen on June 8 in Carson City. Trinity is believed to still be in Carson City.
