Back to school: Clubs, activities, new courses come to CHS
With an estimated 2,300 students attending Carson High School in 2017-18, plenty of clubs and courses can help pave the way toward a smooth school year.
Students can choose from up to 25 club programs at CHS that take place both inside and outside of school.
On top of that, some clubs offer college credit to students who put in extra time and effort toward a certain project or activity.
Some of the highlighted clubs at CHS include: Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), Link Crew, Speech & Debate, Future Farmers of America (FFA), and Key Club.
“We find clubs increase student engagement, therefore helping the student find his or her way into new careers and aspects in life,” said Vice-Principal Bob Chambers. “These certain groups and activities can help build a strong relationship with other club members as well. That’s why we heavily promote so many types of clubs to students here at CHS.”
According to Chambers, students also have the chance to make their own club as well.
“Any club at CHS can be made possible by the students if they find it fun or entertaining,” said Chambers. “All they have to do is contact their Student Body President or representative for support, and talk with an advisor that will do a test to see if the club passes student safety guidelines.”
Along with numerous clubs, a brand new digital media class has arrived at CHS as well, bringing a wide-array of audio, video, and photography content to students interested in public relations.
The new course is designed to build a strong foundation of communication via presentations and announcements to students and faculty members.
“This class will be super student focused in terms of PR work and communication aspects,” said Principal Tasha Fuson. “Giving them practice in digital and media announcements will also occur in that class. So it should be really exciting to see the development of students in that area.”
If interested, contact the attendance office at CHS to find out how to sign-up for any club or activity.
