Celtic powerhouse Wicked Tinkers headline Saturday's outdoor Carson City concert at BAC
The Wicked Tinkers headline the Levitt AMP Carson City outdoor Music Series this Saturday at the Brewery Arts Center’s Change Companies Outdoor Amphitheater. Only two shows remain for Carson City concert series and this Saturday's show, you won't want to miss.
You've seen them on Arrested Development, Craig Ferguson and the Highland Games and now you can see them at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City. The Wicked Tinkers take the Change Companies stage at 8 p.m. Opening for the band at 7 p.m. is regional favorite, Ciana, with its traditional Celtic sounds.
Since 1995, the Wicked Tinkers have been playing ancient rhythms and forgotten sounds — things might have heard hundreds of years ago at a Scottish wedding or Highland riding party — but have reimagined the music for the twenty-first century.
The aim to create a sound that is both “ancient and hauntingly familiar” with use of bagpipes, tribal drums, didgeridoos, and Bronze-Age Irish horns paired with a modern, rock-and-roll energy; their music will transport you back in time and get an audience of their feet with a raw, primal, and exciting sound.
Cíana performs tunes and songs from the Irish and Celtic tradition in the Carson Valley at the feet of the rugged Sierra Nevada mountains south of Reno. “Cíana” is an Irish word roughly meaning both “distance” and “time,” which evokes the ancient expanse that defines western Nevada.
With their unique, energetic style, Cíana wades joyfully into the deep waters of Irish and Celtic music. They combine fiery instrumentals and musical tales of life, death, and love to create a performance that gets your blood pumping and feet stomping.
With a nod of appreciation to those Irish musicians from whom they learned, Cíana keeps the Irish tradition of lively tunes and soulful songs alive in the high deserts of Nevada. While Cíana is based in Western Nevada’s Carson Valley, the swirling rhythms of traditional Irish music will quickly transport you to another time and place.
Sponsored in part by the Mortimer and Mimi Levitt Foundation, a national funder of creative placemaking that empowers communities to inject new life into underused public spaces through free, outdoor concerts, the Levitt AMP Carson City Music Series presents 10 free, family-friendly concerts to the public this summer at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City. The concert is located at the corner of Minnesota and King streets.
