Douglas County authorities investigate fatal shooting in Gardnerville Ranchos
A Gardnerville Ranchos man died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot Monday night following an argument with his wife whom he apparently shot in the leg before turning the gun on himself, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office reports.
David Woffinden, 37, died of a single shot to the chest, said Douglas County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Pat Brooks. The man's wife, Kimberly Woffinden, 34, was taken to Carson Valley Medical Center where she was treated for her injury. The incident was reported at around 9:40 p.m., at a home in the 1400 block of Angora Dive in Gardnerville Ranchos
The initial investigation reveals the couple had been engaged in a verbal argument, during which time David Woffinden retrieved a handgun from the home, said Sgt. Brooks. When the argument escalated, the man shot his wife with a single shot, striking her in the leg. Investigators believe the man then turned the gun on himself, shooting himself with a single shot to the chest.
David Woffinden died at the scene. Investigation into the incident continues, said Brooks.
