Carson City arrests: Man jailed after ramming patrol vehicle following pursuit

A Carson City man was arrested Saturday for suspicion of felony battery with a deadly weapon, misdemeanor evading police and reckless driving following a pursuit with sheriff's deputies that ended at a storage facility.

Shane Bostwick was taken into custody at 9:59 a.m. in the 1600 block of Colorado Street. According to the arrest report, deputies were alerted by a reporting party (RP) to a suspicious vehicle in the area of Champion Street that had been following a friend of the RP.

A deputy made a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle, a red Chevy SUV, and made contact with the driver, who said he was following a vehicle that had committed a burglary at a storage lot in the 1600 block of Colorado Street.
The officer told the driver, later identified as the suspect, Bostwick, to wait at the intersection so he could speak with the reporting party nearby.

The reporting party stated the driver of the red Chevy was following her friend, who told her that he became scared for his safety because he didn't know why he was being followed, the report states.

As the deputy was speaking with the reporting party, Bostwick fled, going east on Champion toward Mayflower. and then toward Sherman. The deputy activated his emergency lights and siren to stop Bostwick, who continued to go west on Sherman toward Airport Road.

At Airport Road and Sherman Lane, Bostwick rolled through the stop sign going south toward Highway 50. His speed at this point was approximately 35 to 45 mph. At the intersection of Airport and Highway 50, Bostwick stopped due to traffic, the report states.

The deputy, with his emergency lights on and siren activated, stopped behind his vehicle, which then pulled away, turning west on Highway 50. At Highway 50 and Lompa Lane, the vehicle was is in the No. 1 travel lane and stopped at the red light.

The deputy again attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle with his emergency lights and siren activated. The officer then exited his vehicle, at which time, the vehicle pulled forward and made an illegal left hand turn onto Lompa Lane, failing to yield, the report states.

Additional units assisted with attempting to stop Bostwick, who drove south on Lompa Lane, east on Menlo, North on Airport, East on Woodside, south on Siskiyou, East on Desatoya, and south on Fairview. While on Fairview, Bostwick would speed up and then do heavy braking, the arrest report states. His speeds were paced at approximately 70 mph in a posted 40 mph zone on Fairview. Due to the man's erratic driving, the pursuit was terminated at Fairview and Saliman, the report states.

Units continued to follow Bostwick at a safe distance, where he changed his speed to approximately 35 mph and then drove up Fairview to Roop Street. Bostwick turned south on Roop Street than east on Colorado Street. He pulled into a mini storage facility on Colorado Street. The facility had a closed metal gate that required a gate code.

Deputies pulled behind Bostwick, and to the side of him with lights and sirens and instructed Bostwick to exit the vehicle. At this time the gate began to open and Bostwick fled again, pulling onto the property of the storage facility, the report states.

At one point, while inside the facility, he was traveling north between two storage units. Bostock observed 2 patrol units in front of him. He stopped his vehicle. There was also a patrol unit about 40 feet behind Boswick. The suspect put his vehicle in reverse, and with heavy acceleration, rammed the occupied patrol unit behind him, the report states.

At that time, deputies approached the vehicle, broke the driver's window and pulled Bostwick out of the vehicle, placing him in handcuffs. Bostwick was arrested and charged with battery with a deadly weapon, reckless driving and eluding law enforcement. Bail: $31,274.
