Carson City deputies make arrests for meth, mushroom possession, DUI and failing to register
A 21-year-old woman was arrested early Thursday morning for felony suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and other charges, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Maryann Margaret Martin of Dayton was taken into custody at 4:06 a.m. following a traffic stop in the area of I-580 and Highway 50. She also faces misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and not having an illuminated headlamp.
According to the arrest report, a vehicle that had been surveilled for drug activity had left a casino without its headlights on, and then crossed over the solid white fog line 4 or 5 times. A deputy did a traffic stop on the vehicle. The woman denied she had been drinking.
A CCSO canine, Tarzan, did an exterior sniff of the vehicle and alerted positive to the presence of illegal narcotics, the arrest report states.
During a search of the vehicle, deputies located drug paraphernalia and inside a makeup bag a clear plastic baggie with a small amount of suspected methamphetamine.
The woman was read her Miranda rights and agreed to speak. She did not deny the makeup bag was hers. She then admitted she had “two points” of methamphetamine hidden in her bra. She removed the baggie from her person and gave it to the officer. Bail: $3,637.
In other arrests:
— The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Team arrested a 19-year-old woman Thursday, 7:53 p.m. for felony possession of a controlled substance.
Juanita Zepeda-Carmona, of Monrovia, Calif., was taken into custody in the 2600 block of Highway 50 East following a traffic stop for speeding in which the driver was going 63 mph in a 50 mph zone. Zepeda-Carmona was a passenger in a vehicle.
A drug detection canine, Ivo, conducted an exterior free air sniff around the vehicle and alerted to the presence of drugs. A search of the vehicle, with an NHP trooper present, led to a white film container under the seat of Zepeda-Carmona that contained psilocybin mushrooms, a hallucinogenic controlled substance.
The woman was read her Miranda rights and admitted the mushrooms belonged to her and that she knew they were illegal. Bail: $2,500.
— A 37-year-old Reno man, Nathan Marshall, was arrested Thursday for being a registered sex offender who had allegedly failed to register, a felony.
According to the arrest report, a deputy made a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Highway 395 and Snyder Avenue after a registration check showed the vehicle had not been registered since August 14, 2017.
The driver was a 41-year Carson City man who was subsequently arrested for three misdemeanor warrants for driving with a revoked license, driving an unregistered vehicle and having no proof of insurance.
The deputy ran a records check on the passenger, Marshall, a sex offender that is currently in violation with the state of California for not registering, the arrest report states. The man told the deputy that he recently registered in Reno.
Dispatch advised Washoe County had no record of the man registering. His case worker with the Nevada Department of Public Safety Sex Offender Registry Unit confirmed the man is currently in violation status for not registering. Bail for Marshall: $5,000. Bail for the driver with the misdemeanor warrants: $1,446.
— A 52-year-old Reno man was arrested early Friday in the 1600 block of Medical Parkway for misdemeanor suspicion of domestic battery and violation of pre-trial supervision.
According to the arrest report, a deputy wad dispatched to Carson Tahoe Hospital in reference to an intoxicated man who needed to be taken into protective custody due to an elevated blood alcohol level.
He was transported to jail where he had been released to the hospital earlier after being arrested for domestic battery that happened at a South Carson Street motel. Bail: $6,000.
— A 21-year-old Stagecoach man was arrested early Friday in the area of East William and State Street for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI and impeding traffic.
According to the arrest report, a deputy patrolling the area was stopped behind a white Honda Civic at a red traffic light. The traffic light turned green and the Honda didn’t move. After a period of around 10 seconds, the Honda proceeded through the intersection, according to the arrest report.
The deputy performed a traffic stop and made contact with the driver who had a moderate odor of alcohol on his breath. He was asked if he had been drinking.
The man replied he had one beer in a bar and volunteered to perform standardized field sobriety tests. He showed signs of impairment and provided a preliminary breath test of .116. He was arrested for suspicion of DUI. Bail: $1,209.
— A 51-year-old Las Vegas man was booked Thursday, 8:30 a.m. at Carson City Jail for a misdemeanor failure to obey a citation warrant. Bail: $740.
— A 77-year-old Carson City man was booked Thursday into jail for two misdemeanor contempt of court warrants issued July 11, 2018. Bail: $2,530.
