Carson City Sheriff's Office investigates Interstate 580 shooting, southbound College Pkwy off-ramp closed
UPDATE: 6:12PM: Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong has released the following statement on the suspected shooting that occurred on Interstate 580 Sunday afternoon:
"At 2:31 p.m., a Carson City Fire-Paramedic crew reported an accident at the intersection of [Interstate] 580 (southbound) and College Parkway in North Carson City.
"As Paramedics began to treat the driver of the single vehicle accident, they reported discovering that the driver had a small caliber gunshot wound to his chest.
"The driver, a Washoe County resident, was transported to Renown Medical Center by Care Flight. His immediate medical condition is not known and his identity is being withheld at this time.
"The 580 and College Parkway exit was closed for most of the afternoon as investigators processed the vehicle and attempted to gather information related to the incident.
"At this time, the victim has not been able to provide any useful leads. Due to the seriousness of the injuries, Carson City Detectives have not yet been able to obtain a complete interview of the victim, who is expected to survive his wounds."

The Carson City Sheriff's Office is investigating a suspected shooting that occurred in the southbound lanes of Interstate 580 Sunday afternoon around 3 p.m., Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said.
The southbound College Parkway off-ramp at I-580 remains closed at this hour while the Sheriff's completes its investigation of the incident.
Sheriff Furlong said he expects the off ramp to reopen around 6 p.m. Sunday evening.
Shortly before 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon, a single-vehicle crash occurred just off I-580 on College Parkway, Furlong said.
The driver managed to flag down a passing paramedics unit, which stopped to render aid to the crash victim, who was found to have a single gunshot wound to the chest.
The victim was transported to Renown Regional Medical Center where he remains at this hour. His condition, however, is unknown at this time, Furlong said.
Carson City Sheriff's investigators are waiting to question the victim further about the incident and the suspects involved in the shooting.
According to initial reports from Carson City Dispatch, the suspect vehicle was described as an older model white Nissan. No other details of the vehicle or its suspect occupants are available at this time.
