Carson City outdoor concert headliner features female mariachi sensation Flor de Toloache
The Brewery Arts Center presents Grammy winners Flor De Toloache this Saturday, August 3 as part of the Levitt AMP Carson City free music series on The Change Companies stage! With only 4 concerts left in the season, grab your family, friends and neighbors and get ready to head on down to Carson City and Brewery Arts Center’s newest community treasure.
Sponsored in part by the Mortimer & Mimi Levitt Foundation, a private family foundation that empowers communities to transform neglected public spaces into thriving destinations through the power of free, live music, the Levitt AMP Carson City Music Series presents 10 free, family-friendly concerts to the public at the Minnesota Street Stage right in the heart of the historic district in Downtown Carson City.
The series has a diverse lineup of high caliber talent spanning genres like Celtic, R&B, Mariachi, Zydeco and Rockabilly.
The Grammy winning, all-female mariachi sensation, Flor De Toloache treats audiences to electrifying performances filled with soaring vocals, plush harmonies, and genre-busting fusions of mariachi, jazz, salsa, pop and more. The headlining act begins playing at around 8 p.m.
The New York-based ensemble continues to win the hearts of both contemporary and traditional mariachi music fans alike through their distinct artistic vision and sophisticated, fresh interpretation of mariachi classics.
The group’s diverse ethnic and musical backgrounds transcend cultures and break barriers by forging new paths. Much like the Toloache flower — widely known for its use in Mexican 'love potions ' the ladies of Flor De Toloache cast a spell over audiences with their magnetic stage presence.
Led by co-band directors Mireya I. Ramos on violin and Shae Fiol on vihuela, Flor De Toloache has graced international stages from Chenai, India to Paris, France and has toured extensively throughout the U.S. as a supporting act for Dan Auerbach of “The Black Keys”’ new project “The Arcs," as well as Café Tacvba, La Santa Cecilia, Ozomatli and Ana Tijoux. In addition to Flor De Toloache’s seven upcoming Levitt National Tour performances (and a Levitt AMP performance in Woonsocket, R.I.), 2019 brings the release of the band’s much-anticipated new bilingual album, Indestructible.
Featuring the talents of John Legend, Alex Cuba, Josh Baca of Los Texmaniacs, Las Migas, Sinuhé Padilla and R&B singer Miguel, Indestructible is already being met with critical acclaim. Upon first listen, NPR's Marisa Arbona-Ruiz praised their powerful new album saying, "Flor de Toloache stuns at the crossroads of fusion and mariachi girl magic." Levitt AMP Carson City audiences are in for a dynamic modern mariachi experience unlike any other.
Opening for Flor de Toloache will be Northern Nevada favorite, Drinking with Clowns at 7 p.m. The music of DWC is diverse, fun and conscious!
