Carson City area air quality in moderate range Tuesday morning, expected to worsen later in day
While the Tamarack Fire is now over half-way contained as of Tuesday morning, smoke throughout the valleys, including haze from the 208,206-acre Dixie Fire, is still affecting air quality throughout western Nevada and the Carson City area.
As of 9 a.m. Tuesday morning, the Air Quality Index (AQI) for Carson City is at a "moderate" level, at 81. It is being forecasted for later today as "Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups," which ranges from 100 to 150 AQI.
Gardnerville currently has an 87 AQI, still falling within the "moderate" range, and it is forecasted to stay within "moderate" for the remainder of the day.
Dayton currently has an AQI of 81 within the "moderate" range, but is forecasted to become "Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups" later in the day.
Washoe Valley has an AQI of 81 within the "moderate"range, but is forecasted to become "Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups" later in the day.
Reno has an AQI of 100, which falls on the line between "moderate"and "Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups," and is forecasted to continue into "Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups" later today.
South Lake Tahoe has a current AQI of 66, within the "moderate" range, and is the lowest of the region. There is no available forecast for later in the day.
