Stormy weather brings gusty winds, rain, downed lines; brush fire in Silver Springs area
Thunderstorms arriving into the region Wednesday have brought a number of calls for downed trees, power lines, outages and a fire reported in the Silver Springs area of Lyon County.
At around 3:45 p.m. Central Lyon County respond to the Churchill Buttes area for a brush fire. Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch reports resources were responding to the fire, called the Churchill Buttes fire, to the area near Fort Churchill State Historic Park. As of 7:40 p.m. Sierra Front reports 150 acres had burned. As of Thursday morning the fire had been contained.
South of Topaz Ranch Estates, the Wellington Hills Fire was reported at 2:41 p.m. As of 4:42 p.m. an East Fork battalion chief reports that U.S. Forest Service firefighters on scene of the fire are taking care of hot spots and that much of the fire was put down due to heavy rain.
Meanwhile, down trees have caused downed power lines in Douglas County and in Carson City. As of 4:10 p.m. 270 NV Energy customers were without power in North Carson City in the areas between West Nye Lane and West Winnie Lane. Downed trees on power lines were reported.
In Douglas County, 12 NV Energy customers were without power in the area of Sunflower Circle near Kingsbury Grade.
Storms will be moving in and out of western Nevada throughout the rest of the afternoon and early Wednesday evening, according to the National Weather Service, bringing lightning, gusty winds and rain. A Red Flag Warning remains in effect until 9 p.m.
