Dayton Pizza Factory celebrates 16 years
In the historic town of Dayton, six miles east of Carson City, there's a pizzeria that serves up more than fresh pies.
It also provides a generous helping of community pride.
Over the past 16 years, the Pizza Factory of Dayton has served as a reliable community partner to area schools, youth leagues and families.
The locally-owned restaurant franchise, located at 185 U.S. Highway 50 in Dayton, opened its doors to the small rural community in western Lyon County on July 25, 2000, capturing both the palates and the hearts of residents.
The Dayton Pizza Factory is currently owned by brothers Nathan and Austin Haynes, two Lyon County natives from Yerington.
Nathan, 34, actually began working at the Dayton Pizza Factory at age 18. After a decade of employment there, the owners approached him about taking over the franchise.
Nathan and his younger brother, Austin, 33, accepted the offer and purchased the pizzeria three and a half years ago.
Under the Haynes brothers' leadership, the Pizza Factory has become even more invested in the Dayton community.
The Hayneses have continued the corporate anti-bullying initiative called “The No Bully Zone,” which is committed to putting an end to bullying in schools and throughout the community.
But they've also done much more at the local level, too.
Through the Pizza Factory, the brothers sponsor several events for different organizations connected with Dayton High School.
They are also major supporters of the Silverado Little League, and they help fundraise for the American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO), the Booster Club, as well as the Boys and Girls Club, among others.
"They take great joy in being involved with the Dayton Community," said Bailey Hewitt, senior account lead for All Points Public Relations, a Deerfield, Illinois-based marketing firm for the Pizza Factory corporate franchising chain.
Nathan Haynes said his dad was the man that everyone knew. If he was walking down the street, everyone he met would stop to say 'hi' to him, Haynes said.
The Haynes brothers are taking after their father, Hewitt said, by slowly transforming themselves into familiar faces in the community.
Having grown up in a small town, she said, the brothers can appreciate the special role that a business like The Pizza Factory plays in a rural community like Dayton.
In Dayton, it's the place where teenagers gather after school, or before a Friday night football game, the Haynes brothers said. It’s where families go out to celebrate birthdays, graduations and other milestones.
The Pizza Factory chain of franchises was founded 30 years ago and has since grown to 113 locations in six states across the West Coast.
