Wildlife fisheries biologist to speak to Carson City Rotarians
Carson City area Rotarians will welcome Nevada Department of Wildlife Fisheries Biologist Travis Hawks at the club’s meeting on Tuesday, July 20. The meeting takes place in the Brewery Arts Center’s Grand Ballroom at 12:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
Hawks’ role is to ensure healthy and sustainable wild fisheries within the state of Nevada, but his presentation will focus on the Carson City region.
“Fisheries are important for a number of reasons, they are a part of the Nevada landscape that many long-term residents have grown up enjoying, they provide a recreational aspect that encourages people to enjoy the natural world,” he said. “They also provide a revenue stream in terms of license and equipment sales that allow the Department of Wildlife to further manage not only recreational fisheries but to also take care of the less visible species that may be in danger.” Hawks will also talk about long term projects at Marlette Lake, Lake Tahoe and Lahontan Reservoir.
The Rotary Club of Carson City opens its meetings to the public as a way to encourage community involvement and also to learn more about Rotary.
