Carson City man allegedly steals personal vehicle from state office building, burglarizes BAC
A 21-year-old man was arrested Friday for suspicion of felony burglary, grand theft auto and possession of a stolen vehicle among other offenses, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.
Yarleli de Jesus Arreola Alvarez, of Carson City, was taken into custody at 11:16 a.m. following an investigation into a burglary at the Brewery Arts Center. He also was arrested for suspicion of gross misdemeanor possession of burglary tools and destruction of property.
According to the booking report, deputies responded to a burglary in progress at the Brewery Arts Center on West King Street. Dispatch advised a male suspect broke into the BAC and was in the church section.
Deputies arrived and located the suspect. He was read his Miranda warning where he agreed to speak. He explained that he stayed the night in the building, and found tools inside and broke a lock into a cellar outside the building. He told deputies he was helping organize the supplies in the building and was a volunteer, the report states.
He also said he drove a Subaru, and said he cleaned the car off with a hose because it had bugs. He stated he was moving stuff outside the BAC to load into a moving truck, the report states.
The deputy recovered the keys to the Subaru from the man's pocket. He was asked how he got the keys. He said they were in the vehicle, the arrest report states.
Meanwhile, a deputy walked around the building and investigated the scene and discovered several tools outside a cellar door with a broken lock mechanism. The tools in the area were a large punch, hammer, screwdriver and pliers. The deputy observed several items that BAC staff confirmed were out of place.
BAC staff also confirmed the man does not work for them and that he was not a volunteer. BAC staff stated they saw the man removing items from inside the building and placing them outside next to the stage, the report states.
An officer with Capitol Police brought a witness who observed the man take the Subaru, which was a state employee's personal vehicle. The witness confirmed Yarleli Arreola Alvarez was the individual who stole the Subaru parked at a state office building. Capitol Police also provided CCSO with video evidence of the man taking the vehicle, the report states.
He was booked in the Carson City Jail for grand theft auto, possession of a stolen vehicle, burglary of a commercial business, possession of burglary tools and destruction of property. Bail: $20,000.
