Carson City Fire Department responded late Wednesday afternoon to a fire at the Carson City Landfill, 3600 Flint Drive in East Carson City.
Shortly before 5 p.m. dispatch advised reports of a fire at the landfill. First responders on scene report a 50 foot by 50 foot fire in the landfill.
Over the years, there have been multiple fires at the landfill, with the culprit largely being rechargeable batteries, according to Carson City Public Works.
The rubbish from previous fires typically burns hot and puts up a column of dark, dense smoke.
At this time, no structures at the landfill are reportedly threatened. We will update as more information becomes available.
