Carson City to Lake Tahoe trail opening celebration happening Saturday
It has been a long time coming with the day finally arriving with a celebration Saturday to officially open a trail that connects Carson City to Lake Tahoe.
Trail enthusiasts from around the region are invited to join Muscle Powered, Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space, Nevada State Parks, Visit Carson City and the U.S. Forest Service to celebrate the opening of the Capital to Tahoe Trail.
The new Capital to Tahoe Trail connects Carson City to Lake Tahoe via 16 miles of single-track trails. The nonmotorized connection serves hikers, backpackers, mountain bikers and equestrians. The official grand opening of the trail will be held at Spooner Lake State Park this Saturday, July 8 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
There will be live music performed by musician Darren Senn and the new Capital to Tahoe beer from Shoe Tree Brewing company.

Muscle Powered had hoped to invite the mountain bike community to come ride the trail from Spooner down to Carson City but due to continued snow at higher elevations we will let the trail rest a little longer.
Participants are encouraged to bring lunch or snacks with you along with water and blanket to stretch out on or chairs. Organizers anticipate the event to draw a crowd and there is parking at Spooner Lake State Park, however organizers are encouraging attendees to carpool if possible.
Feel free to hike or bike up to Marlette or take a stroll around Spooner after the event. Email Chelsea at ckincheloe@musclepowered.org if you have any additional questions.
