Carson City to Lake Tahoe trail opening celebration happening Saturday

Chase International Foundation recently awarded $12,500 to Northern Nevada and California non-profit agencies as part of their ‘Four Pillars of Giving’ grant program.

Tonight, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., the Carson City campus of the Nevada Humane Society will open its doors to the public for its Paws & Programs.

Paws & Programs is an event designed to share how donor support aids the Humane Society with its animal welfare efforts in the community.

The U.S. Forest Service notes in its Wednesday morning briefing that the Davis Fire remains contained at 92 percent with 5,824 acres burned and 342 personnel remaining on the fire tackling hotspots and mop up.

The League of Women Voters of Northern Nevada, in partnership with Sierra Nevada Forums and AAUW Capital (NV) Branch, will present four free election forums featuring candidates and ballot question information on October 7, 9, 14, and 16 beginning at 6 pm each night at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 W. King St in Carson City. Doors open at 5:30 pm.

The Brewery Arts Center’s second annual Carson City Murals & Music Festival will bring live musical performances and as many as 21 new, colorful murals to Carson City beginning Thursday, Sept. 26 through Saturday, Sept. 28, 2024. This year’s festival artists will add to the 23 murals created at last year's inaugural festival.

Local authors and historians David and Gayle Woodruff will re-enact the characters of one of the wealthiest couples on the West Coast during the 1920s through 1950s at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City on Oct. 29.

Sierra Nevada Realtors is hosting a tailgate party at the University of Nevada, Reno football game this Saturday, Sept. 21 and has partnered with United Way to donate funds raised to those affected by the Davis Fire.

A 51-year-old man was arrested Monday for suspicion of misdemeanor DUI (drugs) second offense and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Training sessions for volunteers will be conducted by Night Off the Streets, Inc., also known as NOTS, warming center on Sept. 26 and Sept. 28 at the First United Methodist Church in Carson City.

UPDATE 1:34PM: The FAA reports a single-engine Globe GC-1B Swift collided with a single-engine Cessna 206 midair near the Minden-Tahoe Airport killing the sole occupant on the Globe. Meanwhile, KRNV reports there were two survivors. Douglas County Sheriff Dan Coverly confirms one of the planes involved was Civil Air Patrol.

UPDATE 11AM: The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has responded to a mid-air collision, which happened at the Minden-Tahoe Airport at 9:47 a.m. One aircraft was able to make a landing at the airport, while the other crashed into a field off Highway 395 near Johnson Lane, said Douglas County spokesman Eric Cachinero.

One fatality is confirmed at this time. The Minden-Tahoe Airport is open, with one runway available. This is an ongoing investigation and more information will be released as it becomes available.
