Carson City area weather: Sunny, breezy with highs in the 80s through the holiday weekend
Heading into the holiday period, average summer temperatures and sunny conditions will continue through Independence Day weekend around the Carson City region and at Lake Tahoe, according to the National Weather Service.
Afternoon and evening breezes are expected with slightly increased winds possible, forecasters say. The weather concern for the next several days, beginning Friday, is the combination of dry afternoon humidities along with breezy winds. Relative humidities each afternoon will be very dry — in the teens or single digits for most communities.
Expect afternoon and evening Zephyr breezes gusting 20-30 mph. These breezy and dry conditions raise concerns for the Independence Day weekend and care should be taken to prevent wildfires by suspending activities that could cause a spark near dry vegetation.
For the Carson City, Carson Valley and Lyon County region, we can expect daytime highs in the upper 80s to near 90 by Sunday. For the Lake Tahoe Basin, daytime highs will be in the low to mid 70s through Monday, ideal cooling off weather for those traveling from western Nevada valleys and California's Central Valley.
There may be a higher concern early next week as a slightly stronger low-pressure trough moves over the West U.S. Currently, Tuesday afternoon and evening looks most likely for several hours of gusts up to 35 mph (higher on ridges and at wind prone locations). However, some of our simulations indicate that the afternoons of Monday and Wednesday could also be periods of concern.
