Reno shooting suspect taken into custody by Douglas County Sheriff's Office
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office received information Monday from the Nevada Highway Patrol they were in pursuit of a Dodge Challenger driven by a suspect from Sundays shooting in Reno.
The call for assistance came in at approximately 12:47 p.m. NHP reported speeds had exceeded 125 mph and they were headed to Douglas County from Carson City. All available on duty Patrol and Investigations units jumped to action and assisted our Northern Nevada partners which included Reno Police Departments, Carson City Sheriff’s Office and the Nevada Highway Patrol.
The pursuit traveled down 395 working its way through the Gardnerville Ranchos, eventually heading southbound on Hwy 88. An unnamed female was dropped off in the area of Airport road during the chase. She was taken into custody shortly after the pursuit ended. Her involvement is not being disclosed as the investigation is ongoing.
The pursuit terminated a few hundred yards off Dressler Lane where the driver and sole occupant at that time, crashed through a local ranch fence and came to rest in knee high vegetation. The suspect, identified by the Reno Police Department as Ronnie Demone Crawford, 41, attempted to run however he was met by several of Douglas County’s finest and taken into custody without incident.
Sheriff Dan Coverley, who was actively involved with the pursuit, is pleased to report no one was injured and very minimal property damage is reported from the local ranch on Dressler Lane. The Dodge Challenger driven by the suspect suffer a different fate and will be impounded as part of the investigation. The driver was medically cleared per policy and is being processed for booking at the Douglas County Jail.
