Silver Springs man in custody following standoff, walking train tracks and firing off gun
On June 28, 2023, at approximately 6:40 PM, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Communications Division received a 911 call reporting that a male subject was walking along the Union Pacific Railroad tracks in Silver Springs, NV and actively firing a weapon in the direction of houses in the 2500 Block of Ramsey Street.
Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Deputies arrived in the area within five minutes and observed the male suspect, several hundred feet away from them, still actively shooting.
A Shelter in Place Order was sent out to residents in the area and Union Pacific Railroad was contacted to stop all train traffic.
Once the suspect saw law enforcement in the area, he fled on foot, off the railroad tracks and out of sight from the deputies. The suspect was observed minutes later fleeing towards a residence on Ramsey Street. Deputies then observed the suspect enter a residence.
Deputies formed a perimeter around the residence and began issuing commands over a loud speaker for the suspect to exit the residence. A short time later, a female subject exited the residence and identified the suspect as 29 year old Silver Springs resident Gordon Alexander Bayne. After a short standoff, Bayne exited the residence and surrendered to deputies peacefully. The Shelter in Place order was lifted and all Union Pacific Railroad traffic was reopened.
Gordon Alexander Bayne was booked in the Lyon County Jail on the following charges:
Assault with a Deadly Weapon
Discharging a Firearm where others may be endangered Obstructing/Resisting a Peace Officer
Bayne is currently being held on $28,640.00 bail.
