Suspect shot, killed after firing weapon at NHP Trooper during traffic stop in Elko
On Friday, June 26, 2020, at approximately 10:20 pm Pacific Time, a Trooper made a traffic stop on River St., near 12th St. in Elko, Nevada for a suspected traffic violation.
During the traffic stop impairment was suspected. Prior to Field Sobriety Testing the subject (30 year old male, Elko County resident) fled on foot. In the course of the foot pursuit the subject drew a firearm and fired multiple rounds at the Trooper.
The Trooper discharged his duty weapon striking the subject.
Medical personnel were called to the scene to provide medical attention.
he subject succumbed to his injuries sustained during the shooting and was pronounced deceased on scene.
A handgun was recovered from the scene.
The Elko Police Department and Washoe County FIS team are conducting the investigation. The Trooper involved in the shooting is assigned to the Elko District. The Trooper has been placed on routine paid administrative leave for the duration of the investigation.
