Carson City deputies make DUI arrest in parking lot of DMV
A 34-year-old Sun Valley man was arrested Thursday at the Department of Motor Vehicles parking lot for suspicion of DUI after being reported driving recklessly on Highway 50 West, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.
Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies were alerted at 8:55 p.m. to a possible DUI driver on US-50 and Golf Club Drive. The reporting party advised the vehicle was unable to maintain its travel lane, was traveling at speeds up to 90 mph, had nearly hit a guard rail and had run red lights.
The vehicle was stopped by officers in the parking lot of the Carson City Department of Motor Vehicles. Officers made contact with the driver who had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person, the arrest report states.
The suspect provided a preliminary breath test of .290 and was arrested for suspicion of DUI. He was taken to the hospital for medical clearance and for an evidentiary blood draw, in which he stated he smokes marijuana daily. Bail: $1,137.
In other arrests:
— A 30-year-old woman was arrested Thursday for suspicion of second offense violation of an extended protection order, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.
Deputies were dispatched to a residence for reports of the violation and made contact and detained the suspect. The extended protection order was in effect through August 1, 2022. The woman was ordered by the court to stay 100 yards away from the victim.
Deputies were alerted by the extended protection order applicant that he had returned home from a meeting and the woman was inside the residence. A records checked showed the suspect had pled guilty to a previous protection order violation. Bail: $5,000.
— A 61-year-old woman Carson City woman was arrested Thursday for suspicion of misdemeanor DUI and operating a vehicle with expired registration.
According to the arrest report, deputies were alerted to a possible DUI driver. Officers located the driver traveling westbound on East Fifth and learned from dispatch the registration of the vehicle she was driving was expired. A deputy made a traffic stop and met with the driver, who had a strong odor of alcohol coming from her person, the report states.
The driver agreed to submit to standardized field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment. She provided a preliminary breath test with a .174 result and was arrested for suspicion of DUI. At jail she consented to an evidentiary blood draw. Bail: $1,209.
— A 62-year-old man was arrested June 22 for a department of alternative sentencing violation. The man had a "no alcohol" clause as part of his court terms. He provided a preliminary breath test of .187. Bail: $3,000.
