Two jail inmates escape Saturday evening in Carson City
UPDATE SUNDAY: The two Carson City Jail escapees remain at large as of Sunday morning.

UPDATE 8:58: The following information has been released by the Carson City Sheriff’s Office:
On 06/26/2021 at approximately 1844 hours, Inmate Trustee Matthew Marizza and Inmate Trustee Cody James Abernathy, escaped from the Carson City Jail. An Escape Warrant has been issued. This is a “No Bail” warrant.
Matthew Marizza is described as a 27 year old White Male Adult, 5’11”, 170 pounds, with shaved brown hair, brown eyes. He has the following visible tattoos. “775” and “Pray for me” on the right side of his face and a rose on the left side of his face. A woman’s face is on the right and left side of his neck. His arms are full of tattoos or “sleeved”.
Matthew was last seen wearing a tan shirt, tan pants, and white shoes.
Matthew Marizza’s last known address is in Sparks, Nevada.
Cody Abernathy is described as a 28 year old White Male Adult, 6’00”, 185 pounds, with short brown hair, and brown eyes. He has the following visible tattoos: Black skull with a gas mask on his right hand; a red and black cross on his right forearm; black skull on his left hand; and a black star on his left forearm.
Cody was last seen wearing a tan shirt, tan pants, and white and red shoes.
Cody Abernathy’s last known address was in Gardnerville, Nevada.
Please contact your local Law Enforcement Agency or 911 if you have any information on the whereabouts of Matthew Marizza or Cody Abernathy. Do not attempt to apprehend or approach them.
UPDATE 8:34 p.m.: Drones have been deployed.
UPDATE 8:26 p.m.: Suspects are still at large.
UPDATE 8:10 p.m.: The Sheriffs Office will be deploying canines into the field.
UPDATE 7:48 p.m.: The two suspects were last seen in East Carson by the river. One is wearing a blue plaid shirt with a white undershirt. Please be aware and on the look out. Both inmates are still at large.
It is unknown at this time whether or not someone met the inmates with a van, or if they stole the van. The van is in police custody. The inmates were not with the van when it was located.
The inmates escaped while emptying the trash.
UPDATE 7:05 p.m.: Deputies are searching the Korean War Memorial park at the end of 5th Street.
UPDATE 6:50 p.m.: Dispatch advised that the van was spotted near Hells Bells and one man had a machete with blood on it.
Two inmates escaped from police custody at the Carson City Jail just before 6:45 p.m. on Saturday evening by jumping a fence, and are currently at large.
According to dispatch, one inmate was seen jumping into a late 90s early 2000s model white van with black stripe, which deputies spotted near the 5th Street bridge heading eastbound.
Deputies do not currently have visual of the van.
NHP and Lyon County are being alerted.
