Monarch Fire in Douglas County 5 percent contained, burning 2,500 acres caused by lightning strike
As of Friday morning, the Monarch Fire in Douglas County near Fish Springs and Pine Nut Road is covering a total of 2,500 acres.
Multiple agencies are on scene to try and control the fire which is thought to have been caused by a lightning strike during Wednesday’s thunderstorm.
Response includes East Fork Fire Protection District, Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District, Nevada Division of Forestry, Bureau of Land Management, and USDA Forest Service Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest with a total personnel of 229.
The fire is currently 5 percent contained, according to officials.
Road controls are still in effect at Lena Lane and Pinenut Road 2.
The fire is named for its proximity to the Monarch Mine, located between Sugar Loaf and Galena Peak in Douglas County.
Officials hope to have the fire contained by 12 a.m. Saturday, June 27.
