Escaped Carson City Jail inmate taken into custody in Reno
UPDATE: Nearly a week after having escaped Carson City Jail where he was an inmate, Michael Bass was taken into custody Monday night in Reno and is likely to be extradited back to Carson City to face criminal escape charges, Sheriff Ken Furlong said.
Just before 6 a.m. June 12, Bass, 23, who was a work crew inmate, escaped from custody. Bass was originally arrested by law enforcement for a drug related offense. Bass was assigned to the culinary kitchen in the jail under civilian supervision. After stacking pallets in the loading dock area of the jail service entry point, Bass fled over a fence.
Although the area of the jail was immediately secured by responding patrol units and search, tracking K-9’s, Bass could not be located.
During the investigation Rumor Schilling was identified as a person of interest. She, along with two men, Jonathan and Gene Crandell, were located in a motel room in the 1300 block of North Carson Street and arrested on drug related charges.
Schilling, 23, faces charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, making false statements and obstructing. The Crandell brothers, both 28, were arrested for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
UPDATE TUESDAY, 1:45PM: From CCSO: The Regional Crime Suppression Unit located Bass Monday night, 9:41 p.m. in the area of 7th and Keystone Streets in Reno. He was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit and booked into the Washoe County Detention Facility with new charges of obstructing and resisting.
He will remain at the Washoe County Detention Facility until his charges in Reno are satisfied and then returned to Carson City to finish out his existing sentence and face a new charge of escape.
