Stewart Father's Day Powwow brings American Indian tradition to Carson City
Hundreds of American Indian dancers, artists, craftsmen and cultural enthusiasts filled the former Stewart Indian School in Carson City on Friday during the annual Stewart Father’s Day Powwow.
A grand entry kicked-off the powwow with a procession of dancers into the arena at the beginning of each session.
For the rest of the evening, various craft vendors, face paintings, competitive dancing, drum circles, a fun run and a host of auxiliary events were available during the powwow.
Several tasty concession booths including Indian tacos, snow cones and tamales were up for sale for hungry attendees.
The Stewart Father’s Day Powwow will continue Saturday, June 15 and Sunday, June 16. Two sessions are scheduled on Saturday, from 1-5 p.m. and 7-11 p.m. and will wrap up on Sunday with festivities from noon-4 p.m.
The powwow is located at 550 Snyder Ave. in Carson City. For general information about the Powwow, contact Diane Buckley at (775) 687-7605 or dibuckley@nic.nv.gov.
