Carson City emergency crews respond to 4-year-old with hand injuries from fireworks
Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called early Tuesday evening for a 4-year-old boy who reportedly injured himself with fireworks causing serious injuries to the hands.
The incident happened in the 2400 block of Dori Way at around 5:20 p.m., and was initially reported as a child who shot himself in the hands with a gun.
Arriving first responders and sheriff's investigators determined the incident involved fireworks and was accidental, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.
The child's mother had left with the child in a vehicle on their way to the hospital. They were intercepted by fire department personnel.
The condition of the child is unknown at this time. The child was taken to the trauma ward at Renown Medical Center in Reno with serious injuries to the hands, said Furlong. Carson City sheriff's officers are on scene investigating the matter.
