Class of 2018 turns tassels, graduates from Carson High School

Carson High School graduated about 465 seniors Saturday at its Carson City football stadium.

Under sunny skies and windy conditions with C-Hill serving as a backdrop, members of the CHS Class of 2018 in words and on their mortarboards, praised their parents, families and teachers for believing in them.

Senior class valedictorians made mention of challenges faced by students and staff at Carson High School this year, in particular losses felt by the school and community.

Timothy Jones, a fellow 2018 Carson High student, died Nov. 26, 2017 following a Nov. 9 vehicle accident that injured several students.

Jones thrived as both a student and an athlete, participating in Little League and joining the Carson High Freshman, Junior Varsity, and Varsity baseball teams. He was also a CHS honor student.

Carson High also lost long-time teacher and coach Shane Quilling on Feb. 24, 2018 at the age of 53.

Saturday's message to the graduates, though, was one of perseverance, pursuing dreams, and achieving goals.

Graduates are slated to celebrate their high school achievement later Saturday at the 2018 CHS Safe Grad night, held overnight and followed by a next day trip to Great America.

Sunday morning at 5 a.m., graduates will board buses to head to Great America, most of them probably sleeping all the way there.

A tradition in Carson City for 29 years, Safe Grad provides CHS seniors a safe, fun, and sober celebration on graduation night and throughout the following day.

The CHS Safe Grad Committee, Carson City Sheriff’s Office, Nevada Office of Traffic Safety, and local businesses and residents help sponsor the event.

Below is an unofficial CHS graduate list, which is not complete, and is likely missing names. This list was provided to Carson Now. If there is a name to add, or a name misspelled, let us know and we will fix it right away.

Send your additions and corrections to editor@carsonnow.org. You can also click through the photos where you will find the official 2018 CHS graduation program given out Saturday. On this program is the list of all the graduates per Carson High School administrators.
