Silver Springs man identified in fatal crash on US-50 in Lyon County
Nevada State Police, Highway Patrol Division has identified a Silver Springs, Nev., man who died in a crash last month at the intersection of US95A and US-50 in Lyon County.
Rogers Heinrichs Jr., 84, from Silver Springs died from injuries sustained in the April 24 crash after being transported to the hospital. He died later on May 7, according to NHP in a news release.
On April 24, 2024, at approximately 11:02 p.m., the Nevada State Police Highway Patrol Division responded to a crash at the location of US95A at the intersection of US-50 in Lyon County.
The preliminary investigation indicates that a silver 2009 Ford Fusion was traveling northbound on US95A approaching the roundabout that intersects US50.
The Ford Fusion was traveling too fast for conditions and the front of the vehicle struck the decorative rocks in the center of the roundabout. The Ford continued across the opposite travel lane of the roundabout and the US-50 west to go US95A north travel lane, then rotated and came to rest facing south, northeast of the roundabout.
The driver of the Ford, Heinrichs Jr., was transported by Care Flight to an area hospital.
Nevada State Police Highway Patrol Northern Command West M.I.R.T (Multidisciplinary Investigation & Reconstruction Team) is investigating this crash.
The Nevada Highway Patrol Northern Command West has investigated 10 fatal crashes resulting in 12 fatalities thus far in 2024. The fatalities data is preliminary and may change/be updated based on final investigation and coroner reports.
