Carson City arrests: Man driving wrong way twice on I-580 booked for eluding, DUI

A 35-year-old man was arrested Wednesday for suspicion of felony eluding with endangerment and misdemeanor DUI among other offenses, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.
Edwin Johnathan Rogers of Reno was taken into custody at 1 a.m. in the 3600 block of South Carson Street. He was also booked for suspicion of reckless driving and headlamp not illuminated, both misdemeanors.
According to the arrest report, a deputy was dispatched to the area of I-580 and Arrowhead in attempt to locate a vehicle driving the wrong way and driving without headlights. A reporting party attempted to follow the vehicle.
A deputy located the vehicle driving southbound in the northbound lane of I-580 and activated their red and blue emergency lights and siren. The officer notes his intentions were to pass the vehicle and cut it off at the Koontz overpass.
The deputy passed the vehicle, a white Jeep Compass. When the officer passed the vehicle, it made a U-turn and began to drive in the right direction (north) on I-580. The officer saw the vehicle enter the offramp on I-580 traveling north on the southbound lanes. The vehicle again was driving in the wrong direction on I-580. The officer, made an additional U-Turn at the cutoff at I-580 and Fifth Street, according to the arrest report.
At this time the reporting party reported the vehicle was traveling west on Fairview approaching South Carson Street and failed to make a complete stop at the stop light at Fairview and South Carson.
The deputy located the vehicle, which then made a left turn onto Koontz and pulled into a grocery store parking lot. The officer exited his patrol vehicle and gave orders for the driver to remain in the vehicle. Additional deputies arrived on scene.
The driver was identified as Edwin Rogers through his Nevada Identification Card. He had a valid driver's license out of Arizona. The officer could smell a light odor of alcohol coming from his person and observed the suspect had red, watery eyes.
The deputy read the man his Miranda warning. Rogers refused to speak and denied wanting to participate in standardized field sobriety tests or provide a preliminary breath test. He was arrested for suspicion of felony eluding with endangerment and suspected DUI. He was taken to jail.
Inside the patrol vehicle, the man began to speak with himself, making random statements that didn't pertain to the situation, according to the arrest report. The officer stated he was able to smell a stronger odor of alcohol when the man talked. He was booked into jail where he denied the request for voluntary evidence. A warrant for a blood draw was requested and granted. Bail: $21,886.
In other arrests:
— A 32-year-old man, Shane Robert Donovan, was arrested Wednesday 7:57 p.m. for suspicion of felony attempted vehicle burglary. According to the booking report, deputies responded to the 3800 block of South Curry Street for a verbal altercation with a subject, possibly brandishing a weapon.
The suspect, Donovan, was seen by a witness who said he took off running, and went into a vehicle dealership where he began attempting to open multiple vehicle doors. Deputies arrived at the dealership, with one deputy seeing the man attempt to make entry into a black Ford Excursion. He was arrested at gunpoint and ordered to the ground. He was cuffed and detained and read his Miranda warning in which he refused to speak.
Due to the fact that the man had jumped the fence into the dealership and was seen attempting to make entry into several vehicles, he was taken into custody for attempted vehicle burglary. Bail: $20,000.
— A 32-year-old Silver City man, Jessie Shinkle, was arrested early Thursday for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, (meth) a parole and probation priority 5 warrant out of Washoe County and parole and probation violation. He's being held without bail in lieu of a hearing.
