Suspect identified in Carson City Wells Fargo bank robbery

On Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at about 4:18 p.m. the Carson City Sheriff’s Office responded to the Wells Fargo Bank located at 1550 East William Street for a reported bank robbery that had just occurred. According to witnesses the suspect approached the bank teller and demanded money.

The suspect took the money from the teller and fled the bank with the stolen money in hand. The suspect was described as having dyed orange hair and wearing a blue winter jacket. No weapons were used or seen during the commission of the bank robbery.

Carson City Sheriff’s Office personnel arrived in the area and set up a containment perimeter. The suspect’s blue jacket was recovered a short distance from the bank. At about 4:43 p.m. a citizen called 911 and reported witnessing a man shoving money into his pockets in the area of 1764 Russell Street.

Carson City Sheriff’s Office personnel responded and apprehended 23-year-old Jesus Monroy-Rojas, whose hair and general description matched the description provided by witnesses at the bank.

Monroy-Rojas was in possession of a large sum of money at the time he was contacted by Sheriff’s Office personnel and ultimately admitted he was responsible for the robbery of the Wells Fargo Bank.

Jesus Monroy-Rojas was transported to the Carson City Jail where he was booked for robbery.

UPDATE 1:02AM: Multiple news sources, including South Tahoe Now and KOLO TV Channel 8 News Now, are now reporting that a person in connection with the investigation into a double homicide in South Reno is in custody, Washoe County Sheriff's spokesman Bob Harmon reportedly told the sources.
It was reported earlier that a connection had not yet been made with the information at hand.

The grant money provides out-of-school-time supports for at-risk students. At risk, a broad term in this grant, includes students who are at risk of not passing a class, at risk of becoming truant, or just in need of a safe-place after school.

My dog, Milo, went missing on January 17 around noon. He was last seen behind Raley's near the Mountain View Health and Rehabilitation Center.

He is a light and dark brown six year-old Chihuahua with white on his chest. He did not have a collar.

The Lyon County Board of Commissioners took the following action on January 17:

Welcome to your weekend, Carson City. You have a brief reprieve from the cold and stormy weather Saturday as the National Weather Service forecast calls for partly sunny skies and a high temperature into the 50s.

Due to verified reports involving the likelihood of stray bullets entering into populated areas originating from the discharge of firearms at the Carson City Rifle and Pistol Range, a temporary operating schedule was implemented along with the increased presence of Range Safety Officers made available by the Carson Rifle and Pistol Club, the city’s non-profit partner for the operation of the range.

The Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office has released the names of a couple killed in south Reno. 81-year-old Gerald David, a former Reno Rodeo President, and his wife, 80-year-old Sharon David, were found dead in their home January 16, 2019. Both had been shot to death.

On Thursday, Jan. 24 at 8:30 a.m., there will be a special workshop of the board of supervisors that is open to the public to discuss objectives and goals of Carson City.

The meeting will be held at Adams Hub for Innovation, located at 111 W. Proctor Street.

As always, the public is invited to comment on and discuss any topic that is relevant to, or within the authority of this public body.

The January Carson City School Board Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 22 beginning at 6 p.m.

A board workshop will run from 6-7 p.m. regarding a progress update for the Performance Plans related to the Nevada School Performance Framework for Pioneer High School.

The School Board Meeting will be called to order at 7 p.m.

UPDATE: 1/18/19 at 3:15PM: According to a story in the Reno Gazette Journal today, the elderly couple found dead in their South Reno home Wednesday have been identified by friends as Jerry and Sherri David. Jerry David was a former president of the Reno Rodeo Association.
The identities of the elderly couple still have not been released by the Washoe County Sheriff's Office, which is leading the investigation into their deaths that have been ruled homicides.

An elderly man and woman died as a result of homicide at their south Reno residence after their bodies were discovered Wednesday, the Washoe County Sheriff's Office confirmed during a press conference.

The Lyon County Sheriff's Office received a report on 01/17/19 of a male subject trying to get a juvenile into his vehicle in the Sutro area of the Dayton Valley.

UPDATE: According to the Washoe County Sheriff Public Information Officer Bob Harmon, units are doing a search through Washoe Valley in an attempt to find evidence related to the La Guardia murders, but they are not following any specific leads.

“We have Search and Rescue volunteers and Washoe County Sheriff K-9 units that are searching through Washoe Valley right now,” said Harmon. “The search is related to the La Guardia investigation but there’s no specific lead they’re following. We’re doing the search just so we can leave no stone unturned, and to cover all the bases.”

Traffic in both directions on Interstate 580 through Washoe Valley, between the Bellevue overpass and Carson City, has been slowed to a crawl Friday afternoon after Nevada Highway Patrol and the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office closed left lanes in both directions while Search and Rescue members worked in the center median of the freeway running through Washoe Valley.

A 28-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the 2600 block of Saddlehorn Road Thursday morning on the charge of domestic battery after allegedly throwing his girlfriend on a bed in an attempt to get her to leave.

This wasn't the column I had planned to write. But so much social media drama has developed from the homicides in Gardnerville and South Reno that I think a public service announcement is necessary.

Good day Carson City. It is Friday, Jan. 18, 2019. Heading into the weekend it looks like the heavy stuff is out of the way weather wise. Today we'll see a slight chance of rain and snow after 10 a.m. with mostly cloudy skies and a high near 46. Saturday we are looking at partly sunny skies and a high in the low 50s.

The Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space staff have been busy bees (nod to Carson becoming Nevada’s first Bee City) and now the community has the opportunity to vote on their favorite names for three facilities.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office is investigating two suspicious deaths discovered Wednesday in a South Reno residence. Authorities from both Washoe and Douglas counties are also attempting to determine whether the Reno deaths and those of two Douglas County women are linked.
