Traffic backed up due to chase, traffic stop involving multiple armed motorcyclists

However, northbound traffic in the valley is still closed by NHP.

Traffic is backed up as of 2:45 p.m. on I-580 near Washoe Valley following a chase and traffic stop involving multiple armed motorcyclists.

A chase began within Carson City jurisdiction involving a motorcyclist who refused to stop and allegedly tried to run deputies off the road, according to dispatch. NHP was called once they entered NHP’s jurisdiction who appear to have taken over the investigation which ended near Bellevue.

As of 2:52 p.m., detectives from Carson City have also been deployed to the incident.

Traffic is backed up at least three miles according to a deputy on scene.

While investigating the incident in Washoe, it was reported that multiple large groups of about 50-80 heavily armed motorcyclists entered Carson City, heading towards the scene.

Tibetan Monks from Gaden Shartse Monastery, south India

Tibetan monks from the Gaden Shartse Monastery will return to Carson City and South Lake Tahoe this month as part of their two-year tour of the United States.

During their Carson City visit, from Jan. 15-20, the monks will construct a Manjushri, also known as Buddha of Wisdom Sand Mandala.

Three were arrested Monday on felony burglary charges after allegedly stealing items from Kohl’s department store, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Youth Theatre Carson City has announced it is opening auditions for Disney’s "The Jungle Book, Jr." The show will run four performances, March 29-31, 2019 as part of its Springtime Double Feature in the newly renovated Bob Boldrick Theatre at the Carson City Community Center. The theatre group is looking for actors, singers, and dancers grades K-9, who will be cast to play a host of colorful Disney characters.

Coalition seeks input for its  Comprehensive Community Prevention Plan

Healthy Communities Coalition’s January breakfast meeting includes a discussion and request for input on the Coalition’s updated Comprehensive Community Prevention Plan.

The public meeting is on Thursday, Jan. 10, 9 a.m. at the Silver Springs Community Center, 2945 Fort Churchill Street in the Lahontan Room, on the left side of the building that also houses the Senior Center.

Carson City Fire Department, sheriff's deputies and the Nevada Highway Patrol were called Monday evening to a vehicle crash in the area of South Carson Street and Highway 50 near Spooner Junction.

A 19-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday for violation of parole and probation conditions after allegedly giving a Carson City sheriff’s deputy a wrong name when asked for identification.

Douglas County Sheriff's Office and search and rescue are looking for a man who became lost Sunday in the upper Kingsbury Grade area of Lake Tahoe while snowshoeing.

The Carson City School District reports no delays in school starts or bus service for Monday morning. The snow turned to rain overnight, clearing many of the roads.

Good day Carson City, it is Monday, Jan. 7, 2019. After snow and wind blew into the capital city Sunday and overnight, we are looking at clearing but breezy skies in time for today's inauguration on the capitol grounds. Today is also the first day of classes for Carson City School District after winter break. As of the time of this writing, no delays have been announced.

The first Carson City School District School Board Meeting of 2019 will be held Tuesday, Jan. 8 in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street, at 7 p.m.

Most people don’t know that the calendar we use today is called the Gregorian calendar, and it's only about 500 years old. It was adapted in the 16th century. However, in the preceding 1500 years we used the Julian calendar. Both calendars are pretty close to one another, and some Orthodox churches still go by the Julian calendar. As a result, many people around the world celebrate Jan. 7 as Christmas.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office observed three separate large bands of wild horses Sunday morning, totaling close to 100 head, just north of Arrowhead Drive in Northeast Carson City.

The Carson City Chamber is spearheading a special gala to celebrate the grand re-opening of the theater within the Carson City Community Center.

CARSON CITY — The motto at the Veterans Resource Center at Western Nevada College is “Veterans Helping Veterans.” For the local chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America the rallying cry is “One Generation of Veterans Passing It on to The Next.”

The greater Carson City area was greeted with snow on the ground Sunday morning, with more on the way overnight, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather outside may seem frightful, but here in Northern Nevada, storms are usually all the more reason to get out and do things.

If you do go out on the east side of town today, please be aware of the mustang herding operation being conducted by the Carson City Sheriff's Office along East College Parkway late Sunday morning into the afternoon. There may be traffic delays and detours.
