Traffic backed up due to chase, traffic stop involving multiple armed motorcyclists

However, northbound traffic in the valley is still closed by NHP.

Traffic is backed up as of 2:45 p.m. on I-580 near Washoe Valley following a chase and traffic stop involving multiple armed motorcyclists.

A chase began within Carson City jurisdiction involving a motorcyclist who refused to stop and allegedly tried to run deputies off the road, according to dispatch. NHP was called once they entered NHP’s jurisdiction who appear to have taken over the investigation which ended near Bellevue.

As of 2:52 p.m., detectives from Carson City have also been deployed to the incident.

Traffic is backed up at least three miles according to a deputy on scene.

While investigating the incident in Washoe, it was reported that multiple large groups of about 50-80 heavily armed motorcyclists entered Carson City, heading towards the scene.

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2021 that there are 26 new cases and 16 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad County region. This brings the total number of cases to 11,142, with 8,819 recoveries and 207 deaths; 2,116 cases remain active.

The Nevada Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that happened Tuesday morning south of China Springs Road in Douglas County.

CARSON CITY — On Tuesday, by executive order, Gov. Steve Sisolak ordered the flags of the United States and the State of Nevada to be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol and State public buildings and grounds until sunset February 26 in honor of the 500,000 Americans who have passed away due to COVID-19. That includes more than 4,900 Nevadans.

CARSON CITY — In celebration of National Digital Learning Day this coming Thursday, Feb. 25, students throughout the Carson City School District are showcasing their 21st century skills and advocating for the state’s continued support of technology in schools across the state. Nevada Medicaid, the state and federally-funded health insurance program, has hit record enrollment. Medicaid and Check Up are now serving more than 810,000 Nevadans, which accounts for one out of every four Nevadans. The increase is attributed to the pandemic and subsequent economic downturn.

I look forward to spring. The first nubs of bulbs poking up last week elated me since it is the middle of winter. And then, oh no! I’m slapped in the face with the realities of spring I would rather not confront. I saw my first ground squirrel! I also saw the extensive tunneling damage the voles have done to our lawn leaving shredded dead grass everywhere. Spring is not all lovely beauty!

The Western Nevada College Paramedicine program celebrated the graduation of 11 paramedics at a ceremony in Carson City on Saturday.

The graduates are now eligible to sit for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician National Certification Test, according to WNC’s Emergency Medical Services and Paramedic Program Coordinator Terry Mendez.

A hot air balloon was briefly stranded on Sunday morning near C-Hill in Carson City. Sheriff's deputies were notified. No one was injured, according to Carson City Sheriff's Office dispatch.

According to Jennifer Myers, who took the photos, the balloon was able to take off after having landed briefly near homes, with the balloon company headed toward a church parking lot with their trailer to rescue it.

The American College Test, a Carson High School graduation requirement, takes place Feb. 23 at Carson High, and it will be administered, free of charge, to all CHS Juniors. According to J.K.
