Carson City arrests: Man jailed for allegedly taking phone from victims calling for help
A 21-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday for two counts felony suspicion of preventing a person from calling 911 and other charges, a sheriff's deputy said.
Jesus Manuel Rojas was taken into custody at 8:17 p.m. near an East William Street casino. He also faces charges of gross misdemeanor misuse of 911 and two counts misdemeanor domestic battery.
According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched to a Kit Sierra Loop residence for a report of domestic battery. Deputies met with relatives of the man who said they were involved in the physical altercation with the suspect. Deputies observed scratch marks on one of the family members and bruising on the other. Both victims said they attempted to call 911 for help and that the suspect took the phone away from both of them before leaving.
Dispatch advised they were receiving multiple 911 calls from the suspect, who wasn't making sense, who stated there wasn't an emergency and kept hanging up, according to the arrest report.
At around 8:15 p.m. the suspect called 911 again and advised he wanted to meet with deputies near the casino. Deputies arrived and took the man into custody. Total bail amount listed: $18,774.
In other arrests:
— A 59-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday for a felony warrant alleging obtaining money under false pretenses, a sheriff's deputy said. Mark Sanford was arrested in the 900 block of East Fifth Street. The warrant was issued April 29, 2019. Bail: $20,000.
— A 29-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday, 12:54 a.m. in the area of South Saliman and Depot streets for a misdemeanor violation of a suspended sentence warrant issued Jan. 7, 2019 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $1,000.
— A 19-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday, 6:34 p.m. in the 3200 block of Airport Road for a misdemeanor juvenile justice court warrant for probation violation. He was placed on a "no bail" hold in lieu of a hearing.
