Organizers aim for new Taste of Downtown Carson City date; original July event canceled
In an update Wednesday from Advocates to End Domestic Violence, the organization behind the community's annual summer culinary favorite Taste of Downtown Carson City, the event won't take place on July 18 as volunteers had hoped. However, organizers are working on plans to find a way to make the event happen this year.
In a newsletter, Advocates advises residents to stay tuned for updates through its Taste Facebook page here as organizers share regular, daily posts from past Taste participants.
The Taste of Downtown event is the largest fundraiser of the year for the Carson City based organization, which provides emergency shelter and support programs for victims of domestic abuse.
In other news, Advocates to End Domestic Violence says it hopes to re-open its Classy Seconds thrift store soon, potentially as early as May 15. Follow them on Facebook here to be the first to know. Classy Seconds, at 3590 Gordon Street, is still accepting donation drop offs daily from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The following is from Advocates to End Domestic Violence the newsletter:
2020 has been a hard year for our agency. We rely heavily of funds from our thrift shop, Classy Seconds and our annual fundraiser, Taste of DownTown Carson City, and both sources of revenue are being hit hard. We had to close Classy for a couple of months (and counting), but chose to continue to pay our employees, as they are part of the AEDV family and we wanted to ensure they could continue to pay their bills, and the status of a 2020 Taste of DownTown is currently unknown.
We recognize many people are experiencing extreme hardship as a result of COVID 19, and survivors of domestic violence are no exception. Incidents of abuse are increasing across the country as victims are isolated with their abusers. This is creating even more of a need for our services in the community, but with funds decreasing, we could use all the help we can get.
