Nevada State Police release more details in fatal Carson City crash that killed two
Preliminary investigation revealed that on April 23, 2023, at approximately 10:04 p.m., the Nevada State Police responded to a reported crash at the intersection of East William Street and North Saliman Road in Carson City, Nev.
Upon arrival it was determined that an orange Toyota Corolla hatchback driven by Gustavo Caldera, a 26-year-old male from Sparks, and occupied by three adult females, was actively eluding Carson City Sheriff’s deputies and traveling eastbound on East William Street approaching the intersection of North Saliman Road.
A black Jeep Cherokee was traveling westbound on East William Street and making a left turn onto North Saliman Road. Caldera, the driver of the Toyota Corolla, was still actively eluding deputies and entered the intersection against a red light. The front of the Toyota struck the passenger side of the Jeep. The driver of the Jeep, the driver of the Toyota Corrolla (Gustavo Caldera) and one occupant of the Toyota were transported to a nearby hospital with varying severities of injuries.
Two of the occupants of the Toyota succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash and were declared deceased on-scene. They have been identified as Korina Adams, a 27-year-old female from Reno, and Destiny Darling, a 28-year-old female from Reno.
The driver of the Toyota, Gustavo Caldera, was arrested by Douglas County Deputies and booked into the Carson City jail with pending charges.
Nevada State Police Highway Patrol Northern Command West M.I.R.T (Multidisciplinary Investigation & Reconstruction Team) is investigating this crash.
This marks the Nevada State Police, Highway Patrol – Northern Command West 11th fatal crash and 12th fatality for 2023.
