Carson City honors Thin Blue Line with laser light show
The names of all fallen peace officers killed in the line duty throughout state history were read Wednesday night in a public gathering that precedes the 20th Annual Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial ceremony scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday on the Capitol grounds in Carson City.
A bagpipe and drum corps started off Wednesday night's event that was capped by a blue laser light show that cut through the clear Northern Nevada night sky.
The lamps of the Nevada Capitol facing the Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial were also glowing blue in honor of the state's long and proud history of public safety.
The blue light is symbolic of the Thin Blue Line that describes the commitment and dedication that peace officers have shown in risking their lives to save others.
Wednesday's laser light demonstration was presented by the Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Commission, running in conjunction with the 20th anniversary of the memorial and the Carson City Shine the Blue Lights campaign.
The final leg of the law enforcement relay that began in Las Vegas occurs Thursday morning as Douglas County Sheriff's deputies hand the ceremonial baton to Carson City Sheriff's deputies, who will carry it to the memorial.
Thursday's service honors the 130 Nevada peace officers killed in the line of duty since the state's earliest days of settlement.
The last officer killed in the line of duty was North Las Vegas Police Detective Chad Parque, who died Jan. 7, 2017 from injuries sustained in an auto accident while on duty.
