Celebrate Cinco de Mayo in Carson City and beyond
While initially, Cinco de Mayo was celebrated as the anniversary of Mexico's victory over the French in 1862, it has now actually become more popular in the U.S. than our southern neighbor.
Cinco de Mayo has taken on a life of its own, and is now associated with a celebration of Mexican-American culture, similar to St. Paddy's day being a celebration of Irish-American heritage rather than a celebration of St. Patrick.
Celebrations of Cinco de Mayo began in California in 1863, but gained nationwide popularity in the 1980s thanks to ad campaigns and has only risen in popularity since!
Now that we've had our history lesson for the day, let's jump into our local celebrations!
