A year after shutdown, Nevada gaming figures show stark pandemic impact, recovery compared to March 2020
Nevada’s nonrestricted gaming licensees reported a total “gaming win” of $1,066,979,987 for the month of March 2021. This amounts to a 72.66 percent increase compared to March 2020, when licensees reported a gaming win of $617,971,174.
Casinos were ordered closed effective March 18, 2020 due to COVID. On June 4, casinos were allowed to re-open with limited capacity.
For Carson City area casinos, the one-year difference shows gaming establishments climbing back to pre-pandemic territory.
Casinos in Carson City, Minden, Gardnerville and other areas of Douglas County except for south shore Lake Tahoe saw a 130.31 percent increase in March 2021 over March 2020 figures. Casinos took in a "gaming win" for the month of $11,977,460, compared to $5,200,659 in March 2020.
South Shore Lake Tahoe gaming establishments climbed by 166 percent, with a "gaming win" of $24,087,861 compared to March 2020 where the win was $9,053,459. North shore casinos saw an increase of 176.18 percent, with a gaming win of $2,032,210 compared to $735,827 in March 2020.
Casinos in Washoe County also show the impact rebound, with Washoe County up 152.55 percent, Reno, 163.72 percent and Sparks up 137.29 percent.
