Governor announces launch of Nevada Recovery Friendly Workplace Initiative
CARSON CITY — Tuesday, at Recovery Advocacy Day 2021, Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak announced his endorsement and the launch of the Nevada Recovery Friendly Workplace Initiative to be housed at the Department of Health and Human Services.
The Recovery Friendly Workplace Initiative is designed to give employers the support and resources needed to implement recovery-friendly practices and provide support for employees in recovery and those impacted by Substance Use Disorder (SUD).
“I am proud to announce this initiative to support Nevadans who are in recovery or helping a loved one facing the challenges of Substance Use Disorder,” said Governor Sisolak. “Employers across the state can access these resources to build a stronger workforce while acknowledging that recovery is a process and support is critical.”
Led by Foundation for Recovery and DHHS, the Initiative encourages healthy and safe working environments where employers, employees and communities work together to create positive change, eliminate stigma and support recovery.
The initiative will connect employers to resources and provide guidance and support from program ambassadors as they implement recovery-oriented practices within the workplace, including free and customized staff training and resources to support employees.
One in three American households are impacted by addiction and 23 million Americans are in recovery from SUD. This announcement comes at a time when Nevadans are preparing to return to work and as the nation faces record-breaking increases of overdose deaths and suicides.
Employers that join this Initiative will receive designation as a Recovery Friendly Workplace from the Office of the Governor.
Recovery Advocacy Day 2021, hosted by the Foundation for Recovery and the Recovery Advocacy Project, is a time for individuals and families recovering from Substance Use Disorder and mental health challenges to meet legislators and create visibility as people who are recipients of Nevada’s behavioral health systems and services.
