Up to a foot of snow possible in the high Sierra beginning Friday night into Saturday
Anglers looking to head to the Sierra for Saturday's opening day of California fishing should take note: A strong cold front will bring snow to the Sierra and northeast California above 5000 to 5500 feet Friday night and Saturday, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.
The image above shows the passes which could be impacted by snowfall and travel delays by Saturday morning. As far as snowfall, 6 to 12 inches (higher near the Sierra crest) are expected above 6500 to 7000 feet, with several inches possible down to between 5000 and 6500 feet Friday night and Saturday.
Motorists should consider leaving for cross-Sierra travel during the daytime Friday to avoid possible long travel times Friday night and Saturday morning.
Rain showers are in the forecast for Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton Friday night into Saturday with mostly sunny skies Sunday, according to the weather service. Go here for the latest forecast.
