Carson City Sheriff’s arrest log: Car chase ends in felony eluding, endangerment arrest
A 30 year-old Carson City man was taken into custody early Saturday morning at 12:08 a.m. in the area of East Fifth Street and Airport Road for felony eluding police with endangerment following a brief car chase, a Carson City Sheriff’s deputy reported.
Austin Bitisillie had been pulled over in the vehicle he was driving for failing to obey a posted stop sign in the area of Carson Meadows and East Fifth Street. He was well known to Sheriff’s deputies with multiple prior law enforcement contacts, the arrest report said, including uses of force, aggressive behavior and attacking officers.
Bitisillie was also active in the Carson City Department of Alternative Sentencing (DAS) for driving under the influence (DUI), the report said.
Upon making contact with the suspect, a Sheriff’s smelled alcohol coming from the vehicle while standing at the driver’s side window. Bitisillie’s speech was observed to slurred, the report said, and his eyes were red and watery.
Bitisillie was instructed twice by law enforcement to turn off his vehicle, but he instead replied, “I can’t do that.” Then he put his vehicle into gear and fled the stop.
The chase reached speeds of about 70 miles per hour (mph) in a 40 mph zone as the vehicle crossed over the Fifth Street bridge over Interstate 580, the report said.
Moments later, Bitisillie’s vehicle crashed into a brick wall securing the waste water treatment facility. The suspect exited his vehicle and began running into the field west of Airport Road, the report said.
The deputy gave chase on foot and as he closed the distance, Bitisillie stopped running, turned and walked toward the officer with his fists clenched, the report said.
At that point, the deputy unholstered his taser and deployed it against Bitisillie, who fell backwards to the ground.
Bitisillie was ordered to roll over onto his stomach after the five-second taser prong cycles concluded. He also pulled one prong from his body, the report said, neutralizing the second cycle.
The deputy then attempted to roll Bitisillie over onto his stomach, but the suspect resisted, making comments like “You didn’t say please.” Following a brief struggle, the deputy was able to detain Bitisillie in handcuffs, at which point the suspect was heard commenting, “I’m f——ed.”
The deputy offered medical assistance to Bitisillie, who refused. No signs of any injuries were observed and the suspect did not complain of any pain or injury, either.
A preliminary breath test (PBT) was obtained from Bitisillie at the jail, yielding breath-alcohol content (BAC) of .248 percent. A DAS hold was placed on him as well for violating the terms of his probation.
Besides the felony charge, Bitisillie was also booked on the following misdemeanor offenses: driving with a revoked license, obstructing and resisting arrest, reckless driving, excessive speed, and second DUI. Bail: $20,000.
