Proscenium Players Inc., production of 'A Midsummer Night’s Dream' coming to Carson City in May
Experience the magic of Shakespeare this spring when the Proscenium Players Inc. present A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Written in the early 1600s, the play is one of The Bard’s most popular and is performed world-wide.
Director Jeff Fast says that more than 400 years after his death, Shakespeare’s writings are still relevant.
“Shakespeare has written some of the core stories of our culture. If you want to know what the origins of Disney, Star Wars, or most modern films, Shakespeare is the origin,” he said.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a romantic comedy about four young lovers and a group of friends who through various twists and turns find themselves in the magical world of fairies. “It’s really one of the funniest plays Shakespeare wrote,” says Fast. “It’s also my favorite.” The story takes place over the course of one night with the lovers falling in and out of love with each other because of the mischievous meddling of the fairy king and queen. “It’s all quite hilarious, but I also hope it fills the audience with a sense of joy, hope and wonder.”
The performances take place in the Maizie Theater at the Brewery Arts Center. Fast says it’s a great place to enjoy the production. “The Maizie is this amazing space that allows for the most intimate and engaging shows. If you haven’t experienced Shakespeare or if you’ve only done so in large venues, I encourage you to come. It’s a great experience being up close and personal.”
Launched in 1965, The Proscenium Players Inc. is Carson City’s oldest theater group and the 2nd oldest in the state.
Performances take place May 12, 13, 19 and 20 at 7 p.m., and May 14 and 21 at 2 p.m.. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at www.carsontheater.com or www.breweryarts.org.
