Snow continues falling in the sierra, wind advisory in effect at the valley floor with rain throughout the day
A wind advisory was issued Saturday from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. due to strong winds coming from the southwest for the greater Reno, Carson City, and Minden areas.
According to the National Weather Service, winds are expected to be in the 20-30 mph range with gusts up to 55 mph in most areas, and up to 65 mph in wind prone areas.
Unsecured objects could find themselves air born, tree limbs could be blown down, resulting in power outages from disrupted power lines.
Now is the time to secure loose outdoor items such as patio furniture, holiday decorations, and trash cans before winds increase which could blow these items away. The best thing to do is prepare ahead of time by making sure you have extra food and water on hand, flashlights with spare batteries and/or candles in the event of a power outage.
Snow has continued to fall in the Sierra, giving a last-ditch attempt to hold onto winter as we head into spring.
According to California Highway Patrol, Truckee, the snow is coming down hard on I-80 from the Donner Lake Interchange into Nyack, with low visibility and high winds.
Snow is supposed to continue to fall at elevations above 6,500 feet, according to the National Weather Service in Reno, with rain falling throughout the region below 6,500 feet.
