Carson City, Quad residents scheduled for J&J COVID vaccine will be offered Moderna instead
Carson City Health and Human Services announced Tuesday it will be contacting those who have appointments to receive the single-dose Janssen COVID-19 vaccine and will offer them the Moderna vaccine instead.
This is due to a "pause" placed on the J&J vaccine Tuesday by the state of Nevada and as recommended by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control due to potential health risks.
Carson City Health and Human Services states that to prevent the disruption in vaccination events, the agency will be contacting those who have an appointment at a CCHHS Janssen event and will offer them the Moderna vaccine instead.
If an individual does not wish to receive the Moderna vaccine, they will need to schedule another appointment; CCHHS will not be rescheduling appointments.
To cancel appointments or to reschedule, residents are should log into their appointment account at:
https://booking.appointy.com/en-US/quadcovidvaccine/bookings/service
"CCHHS is urging the community to trust the safety and effectiveness of the authorized vaccines. The CDC and the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices are meeting to review the Janssen vaccine reactions and will provide information once it is available," the news release states. "CCHHS will continue to work with the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services and the Nevada State Immunization Program throughout the pause and will provide additional information as it becomes available.
People who have received the Janssen vaccine who develop severe headache, abdominal pain, leg pain, or shortness of breath within three weeks after vaccination should contact their health care provider.
Health care providers are asked to report adverse events to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System at https://vaers.hhs.gov/reportevent.html
For questions, contact the Quad-County COVID-19 Hotline at 775-434-1988. More information on the pause of the Janssen vaccine can be found here.
