Reception Tonight: Carson City art exhibition 'Creative Spark' features 32 area high school artists
The Capital City Arts Initiative announces its exhibition, Creative Spark, at the Community Development Building, also known as the Brick, 108 E Proctor Street, Carson City.
Thirty-two students from Carson, Dayton, Douglas, and Pioneer high schools have work in the exhibit. CCAI will host a reception for the artists on Wednesday, April 10, 5 to 6:30 p.m.
The free exhibition is available to the public now through May 29, 2019, Mondays through Fridays, 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m.
Creative Spark includes a wide variety of art media including ceramics, collage, drawing, painting, and photography that show the diversity of the students’ creativity.
The Pioneer High students include Seanna LeMaster and Monica Reyes. The Dayton High students are Karina Allen, Faith De Pasquale, Sandra Hidalgo, Roberto Mancilla, Devon Pickles, Felica-Grace Villa, and Eja Willis.
The Carson High students are Stephany Duarte Alvarado, Garrett Clampitt, Jane Fliegler, Haley Garver, Angel Gomez, Hana Cathryn Ikehara, Valeria Martinez, Daniela Solis, and Sarah Woods.
The Douglas High students include Stella Andersson, Mark Franzi, Jenna Fraser, Cole Funk, Litzy Gonzalez, Michelle Gower, Zoe Holt, Ethan Lee, Mateo Luri, Leo Martinez, Beck Neal, Shannon O’Connor, Emily Smuda, and Maya Wolery.
Motivation and creative inspiration for the students comes from their teachers: Kara Ferrin and Mike Malley at Carson High, Malaynia Wick at Dayton High, Paul Lorion at Pioneer High, and Rita Borselli, Zoe Shorten, and Kelley Yost at Douglas High.
CCAI is delighted to announce that the organization will provide its $500 Aim scholarship to a high school artist/a graduating senior who submitted for the show and is going on to further studies in the fall. CCAI will announce the winner at the Wednesday, April 10 reception at 5:45 p.m.

The Initiative is delighted to provide the students with this exhibition opportunity and with the scholarship to one deserving senior.”
This show is another in CCAI’s ongoing series of student exhibitions in the Brick.
