Carson City Sheriff: Snapchat with threats to 'CHS' originated in New Mexico, teen arrested
A Snapchat photo of a teen holding what appears to be a rifle and making threats to “CHS” was determined to have originated from a New Mexico high school where a teen has since been arrested, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong on Monday.
Noting that the message came to the attention of the Carson City Sheriff’s Office on Sunday, the Snapchat was investigated and Carson High School was ruled out. The threat was determined to be made to Clovis High School in New Mexico.
Furlong said it is important for anyone who sees these kinds of messages circulating to share them with the sheriff’s office.
“It was real and it was in another state,” said Furlong. “The relationships we have here, and what we’ve done when people find stuff like this, we were able to see this and get it resolved yesterday,” said Furlong. "There is not a threat to Carson High School."
The Eastern New Mexico News reports police there interviewed and arrested a 17-year-old in connection with the threat made against Clovis High School.
The photo showed a male student holding a rifle with the captions “F*** CHS I’m going out with a bang” and “don’t go to school tmrw.”
In October 2017 a Snapchat with threatening statements circulated around Carson High School. It was determined to be a hoax generated out of Pennsylvania.
